The parable of the Carrot, Egg and Coffee bean
I’ve just been reminded of how people change in times of adversity. I was reminded of how a story I read long before, and told several times to my friends, was forgotten in me. It tells of how these three items, supposedly representing the types of people changing and reacting in times of adversity, as in this case boiling water. These items are a carrot, an egg, and a coffee bean. The carrot went in hard and strong, but came out soft and weak. The egg which had a shell to protect it went in with its soft content. It came out looking the same, but was hardened by the heat. The coffee dissolved in the water and gave out an aroma. The crux of the story relates to how many people were like these items. The carrot was like a strong-willed person who went into a challenge hard, but came out soft and weakened by what they faced. The egg was like another type of person who was all soft and nice on the inside, but through adversity, was hardened by what they experienced. But then there are some who are like the coffee bean. Instead of trying to change oneself, it influences the others through its character, integrity, personality and morals and allows others to look up to them, as role models, just like how the coffee retains its flavour and aroma.
I may not be the best moral educator or even story teller here, you guys may Google it to find a better or different interpretation than mine, but just like the coffee, the principles of life are there. So be like the coffee, which everyone loves, is popular and always get mixed with the sweet things in life. Starbucks can’t be wrong about it.
