Music Gadgets of the 21st Century

I've always liked creating music. The problem is, I can't play any modern musical instrument nor can I read musical notes. I can play the Didgeridoo if you consider it to be an instrument. However because of technology, many people like me can soon create their own music without having to learn music scores, notes or even beats and rhythms.

I give you the musical instruments (gadgets) of the 21st Century!

Tenori-On

This Yamaha-made gadget is based upon a concept of providing light and sound through a 16 x 16 LED button interface. Users touch on any of this buttons to create and control the synthesized MIDI sounds which is essentially the notes of this musical gadget. Users may also change the BPM rate to experiment on the tempo and mix via the different layers of musical expression.

Reactable

This is really one of my favourite. As described on its website, the reactable is essentially a "music instrument with a tabletop tangible multi-touch interface". Users create and control music by adding and moving various electronic modules that generates various tones, frequency and beats. Light is projected from beneath the table creating an animated sequence of sounds and movements that correlate to what is happening between the interaction of the modules. A camera underneath the table tracks all these touch movements constantly to relay the information analyzed to a computer which produce the sounds. It has been said that the Reactable is an improved offspring to the Audiopad with a much intuitive interface. Although similar in terms of the interface, the approach in sampling and creation are different. One thing is for certain, the Reactable is receiving more attention then its predecessors. Website

Stylophone

Stylophone

Ok, this wouldn't exactly count as a 21st Century instrument. However being a fore-father in the evolution of electronic music, I think it deserve some mentioning. More so when it was recently 'revived' with upgrades such as more selection of sounds and a line-in that enables users to plug in their favourite MP3s  from their iPods to the Stylophone to jam with the beats.
The Stylophone creates music via a stylus tapping on the metal keyboard. The sounds produced can be described as anything from synthesized to vintage. Several top music artistes have included the use of the Stylophones in some of their music, notably David Bowie, Erasure and even Marilyn Manson.
Several places offering the sales of Stylophones:
